Cepea, December 6, 2023 – The prices for hydrous and anhydrous ethanol decreased in November. Despite the off-season period at some plants in São Paulo state, the weak demand pressed down the values – different from the scenario that was expected at the month beginning, when players projected better trades, influenced by the holidays.
Moreover, in late November, some plants offered more ethanol in the spot market, mainly hydrous, also due to higher inventories. In general terms, rains affected crop activities and, as a result, processing activities.
Considering the full weeks of November, the average of the CEPEA/ESALQ Index for hydrous ethanol closed at BRL 2.1352/liter, 2.74% lower than in October. As for anhydrous ethanol (sales in the spot market only), the average closed at BRL 2.4421/liter, 1.28% lower in the same comparison.
As for the prices of the products in the sugar-energy sector in São Paulo, in the last week of November, anhydrous prices were 11.3% above quotations for hydrous ethanol, according to Cepea calculations. Sugar values were 123.6% higher than the quotations for anhydrous ethanol and 101% above hydrous ethanol prices.
