CATTLE – In June, the CEPEA/B3 Index for fed cattle (São Paulo State) was in a downward trend up to June 10 and it moved up slightly for most days until the end of the month, accumulating an increase of 1.81% against May 31, closing at BRL 225.15 on June 28.
The supply of ready-to-slaughter animals raised at pastures reduced considerably, at the same time that feedlot batches to fill delivery windows were increasing in late June. These animals usually have the highest values of the price range, which led average quotations in São Paulo state (CEPEA/B3 Index) and prices in other regions to register slight increases.
The winter in Brazil will be influenced by La Niña. In general, the forecast is for dry weather and above-average temperatures for both the Southeast and the Central-West. Therefore, the pasture supply may be limited. As for exports, they usually increase in the second semester – August, September and October historically register the biggest volumes. At feedlots, the volume of animals was 18% smaller in late May compared to the average of the period over the last three years, according to DSM-Firmenich.
SWINE – Prices of swine products finished June in an upward trend, the second consecutive month of increases. This scenario is related to the good performance of Brazilian exports of in natura pork meat in the partial of June and to the firm demand for the product in the domestic market.
Concerning the partial of June (15 producing days), 70.2 thousand tons of in natura pork meat were shipped, according to data from Secex. The daily average is at 4.7 thousand tons, upping 7.3% against May/24 and an increase of 1.2% in relation to that in June last year.
In Brazil, the firm demand (especially in early June) and the limited supply of ready-to-slaughter animals kept prices of both live pigs and pork meat at high levels.
POULTRY – Price averages of chicken products surveyed by Cepea finished June with different trends. While the firm demand in part of the month boosted quotations enough to sustain the monthly average in some cases, in others, the low liquidity ended up pressing down values.
According to data from Secex, the daily average of in natura chicken meat exports is at 20.9 thousand tons in this partial of June (15 producing days), upping 3.3% compared to May and 5% in relation to that verified in June 2023.
