Cepea, June 18, 2024 – Players from mills continued firm regarding values in the spot market in mid-June in São Paulo state. They were focused on sugar prices in the international market – it is worth noting that demerara sugar quotations were again at 19 cents of dollar per pound at ICE Futures. Distributors, in turn, closed deals involving higher volumes.
Thus, the amount of hydrous ethanol traded by mills in SP between June 10 and 14 increased 15% against the previous period.
Between June 10 and 14, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index for hydrous ethanol closed at BRL 2.3378/liter (net of ICMS and PIS/Cofins), upping 1.37% compared to that in the previous week. Concerning anhydrous ethanol, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index closed at BRL 2.6340/liter, net of taxes (PIS/Cofins), for an increase of 0.65% in the same period.
The volume traded had already been high in May. According to data from Unica, 1.93 billion liters of hydrous ethanol were traded in May. In the domestic market, deals involved 1.87 billion liters, for an increase of 46.5% compared to that in the same period last season. It is the biggest volume traded by mills in the Central-South since October 2020.
Data from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) show that in São Paulo, between June 9 and 15, ethanol quotes averaged BRL 3.64 per liter, amounting for 64.8% of gasoline prices (5.62 BRL per liter).
