Cepea, June 18, 2024 – Brazilian players continue to prioritize shipments of the product traded previously – batches are sent to both domestic and international markets. This scenario and the attractive prices to export keep the pace of shipments firm.
Data from Secex indicate that Brazil exported 50.34 thousand tons of cotton in only five producing days of June, which is close to that shipped in June/23 (60.3 thousand tons). The daily average is at 10.07 thousand tons, higher than the 2.87 thousand tons in the same month last year (+250.5%). In case this performance continues up to the end of this month, exports are likely to total 200 thousand tons, which would be a record for June.
In the partial of the 2022/23 season (from August/23 to the partial of June/24), Brazil shipped 2.4 million tons, 65.8% up in relation to that in 2021/22 (from August/22 to July/23), of 1.45 million tons.
In the domestic market, many players were active in early June, sustaining prices. Some purchasers pay higher values, especially for the product with a higher quality. Others, on the other hand, continue to negotiate lower quotations. Only a few sellers were more flexible regarding prices, due to international decreases.
Between May 31 and June 14, the CEPEA/ESALQ cotton Index (payment in 8 days) dropped only 0.27%, to close at BRL 3.8917 per pound on June 17.
