Cepea, April 3, 2024 – While liquidity continues low in the domestic cotton market (because some players are away from trades), Brazilian exports are increasing at a good pace. Due to the higher international remuneration, some agents are prioritizing new trades to the foreign market, including the fiber of the next seasons.
According to data from Secex, in only first 11 days of March, Brazilian cotton shipments totaled 125.03 thousand tons, 65% more than the volume registered in March/23. The daily average of shipments is currently at 11.366 thousand tons, almost four times more than that in March/23, of only 3.296 thousand tons.
In the partial of 2022/23 crop (from August/23 to the partial of March/24), Brazil exported 1.754 million tons, 21.1% higher than the volume shipped in all 2021/22 season (August/22 to July/23), of 1.45 million tons.
In late March, both purchasers and sellers were unwilling to close new trades in the spot market in Brazil, in general. Among players who were operating, there has been a disagreement about prices and/or quality of the batches.
The CEPEA/ESALQ Index for cotton moved down 6.3% from February 29 to March 28, to close at BRL 4.0894/pound on March 28.
