Cepea, February 5, 2024 – Arabica prices oscillated in January in both the domestic and international markets, due to uncertainties regarding weather conditions and the production in Brazil. While players are still not able to get a precise estimate for the Brazilian 2024/25 season, price fluctuations may continue to be verified. Concerning robusta, quotations moved up significantly, because of the lower supply.
In January (from December 28, 2023 to January 31, 2024), the CEPEA/ESALQ Index for arabica coffee increased only 0.86%, oscillating from BRL 962.99/bag to BRL 1,018.78/bag. As for robusta, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index (Espírito Santo) for the type 6, screen 13, rose 12.60% in the month.
The 2024/25 season of robusta coffee may not recover as initially expected, due to unfavorable weather conditions in the previous crop and concerns with the current crop in Espírito Santo state. The robusta supply was limited to small amounts in late January, and producers were refrained from trades, even with prices at high levels.
As for arabica, even if values increase sharply in some moments, coffee producers continue unhappy about current levels and were postponing trades at the end of the month.
